Build a layer which accesses this via WMS (although it should appear to be different from user-perspective as it references local data)

Q: Can we rely on GDAL/OGR 1.6 & thus keep the Shapefiles zipped?

We can include [http://thematicmapping.org/downloads/world_borders.php TM_WORLD_BORDERS-0.3.zip] as a useful base/sample

An option should be provided to store uploaded data in PostGIS/Spatialite, if this is available.

Q: Is it worth having an Import option for Shapefiles too?[[BR]]
i.e. create Internal Features from this data.

Q: SHould we use [http://featureserver.org FeatureServer] instead of !MapServer?
