= Blueprints for the GIS Module =

The original GIS module is described here:

We use [http://http://openlayers.org OpenLayers] to display Maps with a few [http://mapfish.org MapFish] widgets.

We plan to use an integrated [http://mapserver.org MapServer] to display Shapefiles & Images[[BR]]
Q: Are we better-off supporting [http://geoserver.org GeoServer]?
 * !MapFish & !OpenGeo do this
  * !MapFish Studio: http://mapfishblog.blogspot.com/2009/03/studio-beta-for-mapfile-manager.html
 * !GeoServer uses !OpenLayers as native preview
 * Next version of !GeoServer will feature a REST configuration API!

We should aim to be compatible with UN Logistics: http://www.logcluster.org/mapcenter/unsdi
