Blueprints for the GIS Module

The original GIS module is described here:

We use ​OpenLayers to display Maps with a few ​MapFish widgets.

We plan to use an integrated ​MapServer to display Shapefiles & Images
Q: Are we better-off supporting ​GeoServer?

• MapFish & OpenGeo do this
  • MapFish Studio: ​http://mapfishblog.blogspot.com/2009/03/studio-beta-for-mapfile-manager.html
• GeoServer uses OpenLayers as native preview
• Next version of GeoServer will feature a REST configuration API!

We should aim to be compatible with UN Logistics: ​http://www.logcluster.org/mapcenter/unsdi
