Professing technology as an integral part of social development and empowerment, ISOC-Nepal is an association of different ICT professionals from verse areas of life. Moving on with the dynamics and adapting the global revolution of internet, ISOC-Nepal has been assisting the government with development efforts and further giving vision and bridging in the gaps between the Public Private Partnership (PPP). The Institute has responded rapidly to the new challenges the region faces. Disaster Risk Management is one of SDCC thematic area, lead by Dr. Manzul Azharika. This thematic area emphasises that effective disaster management hinges on reducing the vulnerability. Moreover, reducing disaster risk is also vital to climate change adaptation. The process of managing disaster risks entails understanding and identifying the risk factors and simplifying the complexities of disaster risk assessments.95 Recognizing the emerging importance of these technologies and the potential future demand for skilled professionals, GIS Application Center (GAC) was established in Asian Institute of Technology. The Center is dedicating a significant part of its resources to promote location specific applied research. It endeavors to disseminate research finding to stockholders to ensure their use. Since the inception of the training center, more than 1,000 have been trained from the region with the support of various national and international agencies. Center serves the region with appropriate and timely training courses specifically designed for the needs of participants. Dedicated staff of the center watchful of events in the region and track the interests of donor agencies in helping the region in capacity building activities in Geoinformatics.
