Regional Workshop on Sahana Situational-Awareness

Jointly with the GLOBAL 2016 CAP IMPLEMENTATION WORKSHOP

http://eden.sahanafoundation.org/raw-attachment/wiki/BluePrint/CAPBroker/CAPsymbol.pngThe regional training workshop, on the 22nd August, is a precursor to the 2016 Global CAP Implementation Workshop, 23-24 August 2016. Both events are free to attend and open to all.

Situational-Awareness Training Workshop

The Sahana situational-awareness workshop is designed for participants to be exposed to the concepts and procedures for implementing the CAP warning standard in support of enhanced cross-agency situational-awareness. They will receive hands-on training using the CAP-enabled the Sahana Alerting and Messaging Broker (SAMBRO) software. An expected outcome is that the participants would realize the importance of implementing the interoperable CAP warning standard, in their respective nations and organizations, for improving the coordination of cross-border, national and local warnings. The workshop is free to attend and open for all (novices and experts) interested in understanding how the CAP open standard and the Sahana free and open source software is making a difference in crisis and emergency management.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the workshop, the participants would have a firm understanding of the:

  1. EDXL CAP interoperable data standards and its utility in all-hazard all-media warnings
  2. Sahana situational-awareness inclusive of mapping, warning, first-response, & common operating picture tools and work-flows

and the participants would have realized the benefits and efficiency gains of CAP and the Sahana tools:

  1. through hands-on experimentation with the SAMBRO tools
  2. by assessing the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT)for enhancing cross-agency situational-awareness and early warning coordination
  3. by exchange knowledge with other Government, Non-Government, and Private Sector practitioners who are implementing CAP implementations
